Thank you for posting in the Special Education Forum.
I have one favor to ask, however. Please do not post in ALL CAPS. Not only
does it make the message harder to read, but it is considered "shouting" on
line!

I am intern at the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and need some teacher input for an article I am writing. The article focuses on how to include special needs students in the regular phys ed class. I need teachers thoughts on this area, including the benefits for both disabled and non-disabled students, and how you feel about the IEP process. Are you involved in it, do you feel you should be, how much...
If you could email me with your answers, I may quote you in the article! Please leave your name, title, school name, and address (so I can send you a copy when it comes off press).
Thanks!

Hi:
I have an 8 year old child with skeletal dysplasia (unclassified), who has a
trach, or stoma opening. I would also be interested in leaning about the
possibility of him swiming. He loves the pool, but has to have someone hold
him up so that water doesn't get in the trach. It would be a great excercise
for him with his skeletal/othopedic condition. Please let me know if anyone
has any ideas.

Hi, from Minnesota, I swim with an eleven year old boy, with a trac/stomas.
He wears a jacket type vest; and is taken into the water down a ramp with a
wheelchair, then floats, leaning against staff, with his head supported
against staff's shoulder. Staff hold him under the arms, allowing him to
move his arms/legs. We started this program a year ago, with many
reservations, but a child who was excited and saying YES!!! His confidence
level has grown along with ours...we look forward to starting again in two
weeks. Good luck, if I can help in anyway..email me at
